The Chatham Islands is a group of small islands in the south Pacific Ocean off the eastern coast of New Zealand's South Island.

Home to a population of around 600 people and not much more than a few shops and an airport, the Chathams is a unique destination that sports a singular 1300m sealed runway and 2 aircraft stands. The Chathams sees regular visits from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch flown by Air Chathams in their SAAB 340 aircraft.

Covered by NZZO Oceanic Radar, the Airspace around the Chathams is completely procedural and relies on position reports from aircraft to remain separated across the ocean.

While the flight is slightly longer than most legs, taking around 1.5-2 Hours depending where you depart from, the landing into the Chats is well worth it, with a short runway and water on both sides, you do have to be on the ball to make a successul landing
